Anthropomorphic Nouns

I thought this might be boring, but stick with it. You'll love the ending.

We are all familiar with:

A herd of cows

A flock of chickens

A school of fish

and a flock of geese

However, less widely know is:

A pride of lions

A murder of crows

(as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens)

An exaltation of doves

And, presumably because they look so wise:

A Parliament of owls

Now consider a group of Baboons.

Baboons are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates.

And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?

Believe it or not... A Congress!

Sen Feinstein Wants Every Gun and Gun Owner Registered

This goes along with my last posting. I’m not 100% sure that I have to worry about my over/under shotgun, which my father gave to me after my mother won it in a raffle. All I’ve got is bird shot for the thing, so it would be considered a gun for hunting, but I’m not holding my breath that hunting guns will be grandfathered in. I know they will eventually include guns of any kind to be registered.

Most control laws have grandfather exemptions. In other words, if you have owned a gun for over twenty years, you don’t need to undergo a background check. If your parents or grandparents gave you a gun that transfer of ownership didn’t have to be recorded either. If you bought a gun from a gun show or another person, that also didn’t need to be recorded.

But Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (which is a definite contradiction in terms), wants to change all of that. After the first of the year, she is planning on introducing a massive new gun control bill that will require every gun owner, regardless of any grandfather clause, to be fingerprinted and have a background check run on them. The bill will also require every gun in the nation to be registered, regardless of how old it is or how you obtained it.

I’ve got an elderly family member who has a WW II Japanese rifle. He got this rifle from his uncle who was in Okinawa during the tail end of WW II as a part of our Army occupation forces. This family member of mine hasn’t fired this weapon because he’s worried about bananaing the barrel and I don’t blame him. Looks like he would have to register this weapon if Feinstein gets her way! What a crock!

Here is a summary, taken from her own website, of the legislation she plans on introducing this next year and take special note to the last major bullet point:

Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:

  • 120 specifically-named firearms
  • Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics
  • Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.

Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:

  • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
  • Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
  • Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
  • Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds

Protects legitimate hunters [DUH!!! The 2nd Amendment says NOTHING about Hunting – Militia it IS!!!] and the rights of existing gun owners by:

  • Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
  • Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes [DUH!!! The 2nd Amendment says NOTHING about Hunting – Militia it IS!!!]
  • Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons

Well maybe my family member might not have to register that Japanese rifle. It looks like it would depend if that rifle could be considered an "antique".

Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:

  • Background check of owner and any transferee
  • Type and serial number of the firearm
  • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint
  • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law
  • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

Legislation like this is one of the key steps to the hostile takeover of a nation.

It has happened before in places like Germany and Russia and could well happen here. Once they know where all the guns are, then they will systematically try to confiscate them for one reason of another.

The scary thing is that there is a growing number of senators, including Republicans, that are beginning to talk about the need for more gun control after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. If by any chance this gets passed, I fear that a number of law enforcement officers will be wounded or killed by gun owners who refuse to comply with the new communist law.

Feinstein and her liberal communist legislation must be stopped at all costs.

Write, call, email or speak in person to your senator and congressman/woman and demand that they fight against this illegal legislation.

You can find your senator(s) and how to contact him/her at the Senate’s official web site. You can find your representative(s) and how to contact him/her at the House of Representative’s official web site.

Our Founding Fathers knew the importance of keeping the people well-armed and today’s liberals are out to destroy that strength with whatever means they can.

Arm Teachers Instead of Disarming Americans

I got this from a friend of mine. I'll be making my own comments on this article in my usual bold red font type.

Gun control! Gun control! Gun control!

You can't look anywhere on the news or internet without seeing the cries for more gun control in wake of last Friday's massacre in Newtown, CT.

There is no escaping the tears of remorse and cries of anger that have flooded every media outlet in the nation.

But let's set raw emotion aside for a second and look at reality.

First and foremost, the guns did NOT kill those children and adults in Connecticut, it was [No Name]. The guns did not load themselves, it was Adam Lanza, and the guns did not pull the trigger, it was [No Name].

It's already a well-known fact that Connecticut had some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, but [No Name] didn't care about the law.

Some of the other areas of our nation that have the highest crime rates also have strict gun control laws, but laws rarely stop people that are determined to commit violent acts on other people.

And that’s what really gets me. I don’t see why people think that gun control will end gun violence because it never has.

Mayor Bloomberg has enacted strict guns laws in New York City, yet the city boosts one of the highest rates of gun violence in America.

In our nation’s capitol, Washington D.C., there is a total ban on guns of any kind. You can’t legally own a gun or even have one within the city, yet the city boosts the highest gun violence rate in America!

There have been other instances of gun violence where guns were actually banned.

What about the shooting in the Colorado movie theater?

James Holmes could have gone to a theater near where he lived, but he didn’t. Know why? The one he went to had a no guns on premises rule; the ones near where he lived didn’t have that rule. He knew that he would be the only one in the theater with a gun!

It's like Sean Hannity says.... Evil people will find a way to commit evil. They won’t care about legally owning a gun; if they want one, they will get one.

But on to the rest of this posting...

So what is the solution?

How about taking a look at what works in other countries like Thailand and Israel. Both countries have active terrorist threats against school children by Muslim extremists and Jihadists. In an effort to prevent a similar shooting at their schools, they have been arming their teachers. Many teachers in Israel and Thailand now carry concealed handguns with them.

The Israeli government told the people that they would protect them and they created gun-free zones in the country. Those zones soon became known as victim disarmament zones.

In 1974, jihadist terrorists attacked Israeli school children on a field trip to a tobacco farm. The attack killed 25 and wounded 66 other. In 1978, terrorists attacked an Israeli school bus, killing 37 children and wounding 76 other people.

Israeli people had enough of the gun free zones and failed promises of government protection.

Instead of tightening up gun control laws, they started arming teachers and others and trained them how to protect their students.

In 2002, Jihadists tried to enter an Israeli school, only to be repelled by armed teachers.

In another incident, a suicide bomber that was intending on blowing himself up at an Israeli school was shot and killed by an armed teacher before he was able to detonate the bomb.

The threat of violence against school children is still high in Israel and Thailand, but we don’t hear nearly as many successful attacks being carried out since they started arming teachers. Their programs have proven to be very successful and I believe we should implement the same thing here.

Let’s arm our teachers before we disarm the people.
